Cardigan with openwork mesh knitting. Openwork cardigan - an amazing summer outfit

Cardigans are a very stylish and popular type of outerwear for women. Depending on preferences, they can be knitted, cotton or knitted. A huge advantage of this product is that you can easily knit it yourself, without sacrificing a huge amount of time and budget. To learn how to knit unique openwork cardigans with your own hands, you need to have minimal knitting skills and, of course, be able to understand patterns and instructional photos.

Necessary materials:

  • yarn (100% cotton);

The quantity depends on the size. For example, for size 32-34 you need 400 g, for size 48-50 - 600 g.

  • round and straight knitting needles;

To add airiness and delicacy to the product, you need to use yarn overs and loops knitted together when knitting. The designs of the products may be different, and you can also combine several patterns.

Scheme No. 1

At the beginning of the work, you will have to cast on loops, the number of which is divisible by 6. Do not forget that you should add two more edge loops to the resulting number. The first and last in knitting are always edge stitches. Further the drawing will be described without taking into account the edge loops.

Knit the first and second row according to the pattern, starting with the front loop.

In the third row, remove three loops, then pull the knit 2 loops knitted together through them, then from one loop get 5: knit, purl, etc. Continue knitting until the end until you run out of loops.

Method No. 2

There is any number of loops, the main thing is that it is divided into 6 and 2 edge loops. The first row is knitted with knit stitches. In the second row, make two turns of the thread around the knitting needle, knit one purl stitch, wrap the thread four times around the knitting needle. Repeat until you run out of stitches. Edge - purl loop, do not forget about the yarn over.

In the third row, discard the yarn over and pull out a loop. Slip six stitches onto an auxiliary needle and pull out the stitches when dropping the yarn overs. And the loops that are on the auxiliary needle need to be turned around (360 degrees), then knit them, repeat from the purl, then the edge, while pulling out the loop when dropping the yarn over.

The fourth, fifth and sixth row are stockinette stitch, starting from the purl row. Repeat the pattern 2 times to end up with 12 rows.

Option #3

The number of loops is any, which is divisible by 5 and plus two edge loops. In the first row, alternate one knit and three turns of the thread around the knitting needle to the end, not forgetting the loops for the edge. In the second row, slip 5 stitches as purls and pull out stitches when dropping yarn overs. Return the dropped stitches back to the knitting needle from which they were removed, knit all 5 stitches together, making 5 alternating stitches: one knit, one purl, etc.

The third and fourth rows are stockinette stitch, starting with knit stitches. Repeat this pattern 2 times, resulting in 8 rows.

When working on a cardigan, you need to follow the following sequence: knit 12 rows with the pattern of the first pattern, then 4 rows with stockinette stitch. Twelve rows with pattern No. 2, then four rows of stockinette stitch, 8 rows with pattern No. 3. Continue in this sequence until the end.

For the back you will need to cast on from 92 to 140 stitches depending on the size. The first 3 rows are garter stitch, starting with the purl row, then 2 rows of knit stitch.

For the left front, cast on 50-14 loops with the same sequence as the back. In the first row of pattern No. 3, add or subtract loops depending on the size, so that you get 52-57-62-67-72 loops, respectively. In the last row, return everything back. You need to decrease the loops to form the neck at a height of 48 cm. At a knitting height of 76 cm you need to close off the resulting 24-48 loops.

Knit the right front in the same way as the left. For sleeves, cast on 38-50 stitches. The length of the sleeves must be individual. At the end, combine the entire finished product.

Having set the goal of knitting a cardigan, every craftswoman asks herself the question “What will be needed for this and can I do it?” We hasten to reassure you that modern industry provides a wide assortment of yarn. When you go to the store, you may simply get confused or take unnecessary yarn. If you are a beginner in this business, then further instructions on how to knit a cardigan will help you: diagrams and descriptions 2019.

How to choose a tool and yarn for knitting a cardigan

When choosing yarn, which department store shelves are “littered” with, you first need to look at the label and thoroughly study the information. What you need to know:

  • What is included in the skein.
  • Hank weight.
  • What is the length of the thread in the ball?
  • Recommended knitting needles and hooks.
  • Instructions for caring for the finished item.

The selection of yarn must be approached with all seriousness. The level of quality is especially important. When selecting the composition of the yarn, you need to take into account the conditions for the cardigan (style, child or adult, allergies and many other conditions). It is better to buy natural yarn than “synthetics”.

When knitting a baby item, the best yarn is acrylic or cotton. Set the mohair aside. It won't work in this situation.

How to choose the right yarn for a cardigan? When choosing yarn for a baby item, hold it against your face. It should not cause discomfort, such as itching. Yarn of animal origin is strictly prohibited for allergy sufferers. Cotton or acrylic will suit them. But eco-yarn has no competition. It uses environmentally friendly raw materials and dyes exclusively of natural origin. When choosing a tool, look at the label. It gives instructions on which knitting needles to use.

Patterns, diagrams and knitting techniques

If you are a debutant, then before you start knitting a cardigan for women with a description, you should familiarize yourself with the types of “loops”, learn to recognize and knit them. Debut with basic drawings.

Knitting a simple cardigan: a pattern for beginners

The simplest pattern for knitting a cardigan is “rice”. Purl and knit stitches are put into action. First row: knit → purl.

Second row: purl → knit.

How to knit a Lalo cardigan

In 2019, cardigan models with an unusual chic pattern came into fashion. Lalo literally blew up the Internet. We suggest knitting it yourself; besides, it’s not at all difficult. For this you will need a weaving pattern, and of course, at the end you will find a video from MK!

Cardigan Lalo

So, knitting with the Lalo pattern. The pattern is a braid of thirty-two loops. There are two purl braids between the braids. Cast on two hundred and six stitches.

  1. First row: from each loop - two knit stitches. Do it behind the front and back walls.
  2. Second row: edge, * knit two, purl 32 * 12 times, knit two, edge.
  3. Third row: edge, * purl two, overlap to the right * 6 times, * purl 2, overlap to the left * 6 times, purl 2, edge.
  4. Fourth row: *knit 2, purl 32* 12 times, knit 2, edge stitch.
  5. Fifth rank: edge, * purl 2, knit 32 * 12 times, purl 2, edge.

Follow the drawing, making crossings in every twentieth row.

Weaving with chinchilla pattern

To knit patterns for cardigans, use patterns. To do this, cast on the required number of loops (must correspond to the length of the product).

  • First row: six knit stitches.
  • Second row: purl six stitches.
  • From the third to the tenth row: knit six loops, then turn the knitting.
  • Eleventh rank: six front, then three with edge set.
  • Twelfth row: purl six, turn knitting.
  • From the thirteenth to the twenty-second row, knit six loops, turning the knitting.

Alternately move the knitting three stitches. Then knit two rows of stockinette stitch on all stitches. Turn it inside out.

How to knit an oversized model with knitting needles: MK on video

Mating takes place in several stages:

  1. The length of the model is supposed to be 60 cm. Cast on 65 stitches, then two edge stitches and knit three rows with an elastic band in the sequence: one purl → one knit stitch. Then knit ninety-eight rows with English elastic. To close the neck, leave fourteen loops on each side.
  2. Knit the back by analogy.
  3. Sleeve: 35 loops + two edge stitches. So, five rows. The last row is purl stitches.

Here is another selection of videos from YouTube with a detailed description and knitting pattern for an oversized cardigan.

Garter stitch cardigan: video from YouTube

As you can see, there are quite a few patterns for knitting women's cardigans. Well, to make this selection complete, it’s worth including another very simple knitting pattern, which we call “garter stitch.” The advantage is that this pattern is knitted simply and quickly. We bring to your attention the video:

Tips for beginners in video lesson

  • Tip 1. Do not focus on the price of the yarn, this does not always mean its 100% quality.
  • Tip 2. Study with special attention and approach the choice of the yarn composition itself.
  • Tip 3. If you knit a product with a variety of shades, then find out initially whether it sheds? Otherwise, an unpresentable thing may “dance” at the exit.
  • Tip 4. If you have a child, you should know in advance about the harmlessness of yarn. After all, children put everything in their mouths.

Tip for cutting stitches (using the neckline as an example):
Cut off all the stitches in garter stitch on the inside, i.e. placket + stitches for the collar.
Cut in the same way on the left side, before all the stitches in garter stitch: knit two knit stitches together.
Continue the reduction on the right side, after all the garter stitches: slip the unknitted stitch as a knit stitch, knit 1, psso.
Knitting the main fabric of the jacket with knitting needles
We knit forward/backward on circular needles, starting from the middle of the front front of the jacket.
Loosely cast on 211-231-251-281-311-341 stitches (5 placket stitches towards the center of the fabric) on a #4 circular needle. Knit the first row as follows (= wrong side): knit 5 knit stitches, knit 2 knit stitches together, * 7 knit stitches, slip the loop unknitted as a knit stitch, knit two knit stitches together, place the slipped loop over the knitted one, repeat from * to * until there are 14 stitches left on the needle, knit 7, cross 2 knit stitches, knit 5 = 171-187-203-227-251-275 stitches.
Knit 2 rows of stitches over all stitches. Then insert two markers into the fabric, counting 45-49-53-59-65-71 stitches on each side (= 81-89-97-109-121-133 stitches between markers on each side for the back). Continue knitting as follows: knit 5 loops of the placket in garter stitch (see explanation above), knit according to pattern A-1: pattern a over the fourth loop, pattern b over 152-168-184-208-232-256 loops and pattern c over the fifth loop in garter stitch, then 5 stitches in garter stitch. Knit once according to pattern A-1, at the same time, when the size of the knitted jacket fabric is 6cm, begin to bind off the loops for buttonholes - see explanation above

REMEMBER THE DENSITY OF KNITTING!
Continue knitting according to pattern A-2 in the same way (knit the bar all the time in garter stitch), repeat vertical knitting three times according to pattern A-2. Then continue knitting according to pattern A-3, at the same time in the first row, evenly reduce 12-12-12-8-8-8 stitches (cut 6-6-6-4-4-4 stitches from the back and 3-3 -3-2-2-2 stitches from each front of the jacket, under no circumstances cut above the slats) = 159-175-191-219-243-267 stitches, also cut evenly 12-12-12-8-8 -8 stitches in the last row in chart A-3, distribute the reductions in the same way as the previous reduction = 147-163-179-211-235-259 stitches.
When one repeat is knitted vertically according to pattern A-3, knit one repeat according to pattern A-4. When the rapport is knitted according to pattern A-4, the size of the jacket fabric will be approximately 32 cm. Continue knitting according to pattern A-3 at the same time evenly adding 16 loops to the first row (8 loops on the back side, 4 loops on the side of the main fabric) = = 163-179-195-227-251-275 sts. In the same way, add to the last row according to pattern A-3 = 179-195-211-243-267-291 loops. When you finish knitting pattern A-3, continue with pattern A-2 (start adding for the collar before knitting pattern A-2 - read the explanation below).
Knitting a shawl collar
At the same time, when the size of the knitted fabric is 39-40-41-42-43-44 cm, begin adding collar loops on both sides to the center of the main fabric. Add stitches by adding yarn overs between the furthest stitches on both sides - on the next row, cross the yarn overs and knit stitches so that there are no large holes between the loops.
On each row, continue adding stitches until 15-15-15-18-18-18 stitches have been added on both sides of the knitted stitch, i.e. there should be 20-20-20-23-23-23 stitches in garter stitch at both sides.
Continue knitting according to pattern A-2 until the fabric measures 41-42-43-44-45-46 cm. Knit the next first row according to pattern A-3 as follows: add for the collar and knit the placket as before , cut one stitch for neck - see cut tip, work until 2-3-3-4-4-5 stitches remain before marker, cast off 4-6-6-8-8-10 stitches for armhole , continue knitting until there are 2-3-3-4-4-5 stitches left before the next marker, cast off 4-6-6-8-8-10 stitches for the armhole, knitting until two stitches remain before the placket, reduce one loop for neck - see tip for cutting stitches, knit placket and add collar stitches as before. Complete each part separately.

Left side of the front front of the jacket, knitted
First read before starting the next part of knitting:
Pattern: continue to knit according to pattern A-3 until 1 repeat is knitted vertically, then knit according to pattern A-4 1 time (knit so that the loops you knit do not coincide with the neck loops, when cutting the neck loops in parts of the fabric in stockinette stitch), then knit once according to pattern A-3 and continue in stockinette stitch until you finish to the appropriate size - at the same time knit one edge stitch in garter stitch in the direction of the armhole.
Knitting armholes
At the same time, bind off for the armhole at the beginning of each row of loops on both sides as follows: 2 loops 0-0-0-2-3-4 times and then 1 loop 0-0-2-3-5-6 times.

Knitting the collar and neck of a jacket with knitting needles
Continue increasing the collar stitches, repeat decreasing the neck stitches on each row four times and then on every fourth row 5-5-6-6-7-7 times. After adding the collar stitches and cutting off the neck stitches, you should have 50-53-54-59-60-62 stitches left on your needle.
When the fabric measures 60-62-64-66-68-70 cm, bind off the first 30-33-34-36-37-39 stitches on the right side for the shoulder, knit the remaining row (= 20-20-20- 23-23-23 loops will remain for the gate). Continue knitting in garter stitch: * 2 rows only over the outermost 15-15-15-18-18-18 stitches (towards the center of the main fabric), 2 rows over all loops *, repeat from * to * until the collar size is approximately equals 5 1/2 -5 1/2 -6-6-6 1/2 -6 1/2 cm along the short side (having done this, duplicate the same dimensions on the outside), remove the loops with a pin.
Right front front of the jacket
It is knitted like the left part, only in a mirror image. When you close the shoulder loops, knit from the wrong side to avoid thread breakage when knitting the collar.

Knitting the back of a jacket
= 81-87-95-109-121-131 sts. Cast off for armhole on each side, same as front front = 81-87-91-95-99-103 sts. At the same time, finish knitting according to pattern A-3 with the most distant loops on each side in garter stitch, continue knitting according to pattern A-4, knit vertically once (look at the arrow shown on the outside of the pattern - the middle of the back, knit stitches from each side so that the stitches do not match the stockinette pattern).
Then knit the rapport according to pattern A-3 before finishing the stockinette stitch
When the fabric measures 58-60-62-64-66-68 cm, cast off the middle 19-19-21-21-23-23 stitches for the neckline, then knit the shoulders separately. Cast off one stitch on next row for neckline = 30-33-34-36-37-39 stitches left for each shoulder. Cast off all the loops when the fabric measures 60-62-64-66-68-70 cm.
Knitting jacket sleeves
Knit back and forth.

Loosely cast on 63-63-63-73-73-73 stitches (including one edge stitch on each side) using size 4 needles. Knit the first row as follows (purl row): 1 knit stitch, knit 2 knit stitches together, * 7 knit stitches, slip 1 stitch as a knit stitch, knit two knit stitches together, place the slipped loop over the knitted one*, repeat from * to * until There will be 10 stitches left on the needle, knit 7 stitches, cross the next 2 knit stitches together, 1 knit stitch = 51-51-51-59-59-59 stitches. Knit two rows over all stitches. Continue as follows (one row = knit row): one edge stitch in garter stitch, work pattern A-1 like this: pattern a over 4 stitches, pattern b over 40-40-40-48-48-48 stitches and pattern with over 5 loops, complete the edge loop with garter stitch. Knit vertically once according to pattern A-1.
Read the entire section before continuing to knit!
Pattern: continue to knit according to pattern A-2, you need to knit vertically four repeats up, then continue to knit according to pattern A-3, knit once, knit vertically according to pattern A-4 once (calculate the loops so that the loop marked on the pattern arrow, located in the middle of the sleeve), knit once according to pattern A-3 and then according to pattern A-2 until you knit to the required length.
Increase: Knit the same way when the fabric size was 12-12-14-14-16-16 cm, add one loop on both sides. Repeat adding every 4 1/2 -3 1/2 -2 1/2 -2 1/2 -2-1 1/2 cm 8-10-12-11-14-17 times = 69-73-77-83 -89-95 stitches - continue knitting with the addition of stitches in stockinette stitch, as it corresponds to rapport.
Knitting sleeve heads
When the size of the knitted sleeve fabric is 50-49-48-47-46-45 cm (for larger sizes, use a shorter arm head, but in the case of a long sleeve head, it greatly widens the shoulders), at the beginning of each row, bind off the loops on both sides of the sleeve head: cast off 4 stitches once, then cast off 2 stitches on both sides to the appropriate length of 55cm for all sizes (be sure that the pattern has not moved when you cast off stitches, knit stitches that did not match the stockinette stitch ), eventually cast off three stitches on each side once before casting off the remaining stitches.

The size of the knitted fabric will be approximately 56 cm in all sizes
Assembling the jacket
Sew the shoulder seams. Sew the back seam on the collar, placing it to the back of the jacket. Sew the bottom seams of the sleeves. Sew on the buttons.

A classic cardigan is one of the variants of a knitted sweater, the main difference of which is the absence of a collar. Such products are used in the fall as a light coat and as a summer cape. Modern fashion designers offer a large selection of types of cardigans: fitted, long models, flared, trapezoid, short products to the waist, wraparound, zippers, with interesting Asian motifs, women's, children's and men's. How can a novice needlewoman create such a product with her own hands?

Step-by-step instructions with diagrams and job descriptions

The peculiarity of a cardigan is that this item of clothing is universal and has no attachment to gender, season or age. Both a child and a young fashionista will be happy with a warm knitted coat. The popularity of the products contributed to the creation of a huge number of models, differing in color, type of knitting (large, “braid”, “spikelet”, shawl), length. Let's look at detailed diagrams of this season's most fashionable, but affordable, cardigans.

Master class on knitting a long cardigan with a belt

To make a long cardigan that emphasizes the silhouette for a woman size 46-48, take: 1 kg of raspberry yarn “Maqic JAZZ”, knitting needles No. 3 (circular). When knitting a pattern, the thread is taken in two folds. Before starting work, you need to remember what generally accepted abbreviations are used in most knitting patterns. Here they are: r. – row, p. – loop, knit. Ch. – front stitch, purl. Ch. – purl stitch, cf. p. – middle loops, purl. p. – purl loop, knit. p. - front loop. To make a product, proceed according to the following scheme:

  1. Back.
    • We start knitting from this part of the product. Using regular knitting needles, we cast on 160 sts and knit 90 stripes with an “English rib”, which is done like this – purl one, knit one. To denote a knitting pattern in this technique, the following abbreviation is used - 1X1 OR 1/1.
    • In the next one - 91 rubles. we remove 50 loops evenly, leaving 110. We do it like this: we knit every third and fourth loops together.
    • 92-95 rub. will be done with stockinette stitch, and 96-99 r. - purl.
    • We knit the next 30 rows in stockinette stitch. We again repeat the alternation of 4 through 4 (purl and front stitch) - 129-132 r. knit purl Ch., and 133-136 r. – facial. We maintain this alternation order up to row 259, taking into account the knitting of the armhole.
    • Armhole. When you design this fragment for 211 rubles. close 5 sts on both sides (10 sts in total). To do this, in rows 211 and 213, after knitting the first edge loop, we take 3 stitches together once, and in rows 214 and 218. – 2 loops together 4 times in a row.
    • Neck line. At 253 r. We find the middle line, count 22 Wed. loops and begin to decrease them. To do this, in 2 rows, starting from 253 (i.e., in 253 and 255 rubles), we knit symmetrically on both sides, starting from 11 loops in the center, two loops together 4 times. In rows 254 and 256 we knit the central loops two together once.
    • 259 rub. - last. We close its loops. To do this, take two loops at once and knit them together, return the new loop obtained to the first knitting needle, again take it and another loop and knit it together. We follow this order until one loop remains. We pass a thread through it and tie a knot. That's it, the part is ready.
    • We knit the left shoulder in the same way.

  1. Right shelf.
    • We cast on 93 sts and knit 90 r. "English rubber band"
    • Working with 91 rows, cast off 30 stitches evenly – knit every 3rd and 4th stitch together.
    • In row 92, the far left. 10 loops will be knitted with a 1/1 elastic band, we knit the next 53 loops, alternating 4 knits. p. and 4 p.
    • Starting from the 93rd r., 30 rows we use only the front stitch, from 123 r. again alternating 4 by 4 (purl, knit stitch).
  2. Armhole. The procedure for working on this part of the right front is similar to knitting the back. At 211 r. close 5 loops on each side of the product (10 stitches in total). To do this, we knit them in rows 211 and 213 after the first edge loop (take 3 stitches together once), and in rows 214 and 218. two loops together 4 times in a row.
  3. Neck. This part is knitted at 247 rubles. We remove 16 stitches from the left. Starting from 247, we take 2 loops together 4 times in a row (in rows 247 and 249). Row 248 and knit 250-258. Ch. 259 rub. – we finish knitting the part by closing the loops.
  4. Right sleeve. We string 75 p. and knit 35 r. "English rubber band" 36 rub. – remove 22 stitches evenly, knitting two stitches together every 3-4 stitches. 37-40 rub. – facial smooth surface, 41-44 r. - purl, so we alternate up to 113 rubles. For 49 rub. We expand the fabric by adding 1 loop 7 times in all 8 rows. To do this, we make a yarn over. We get 69 sts and knit knits. Ch. up to 163 rub.
  5. Starting from 163 rubles, in order to design the cuff line of the sleeve, we close three stitches on both sides of the front, knitting them together. Then in each even row (164,166,168, etc.) we decrease 2 stitches in two rows, 1 stitch in 9 rows, 3 loops once. You should get 23 p. Finish knitting the part 193 p., close it off.
  6. We perform the right sleeve in the same way. We make sure that the knitting density is the same, otherwise the parts will differ in length and width.
  7. The left front of the cardigan and the sleeve are knitted in the same order.
  8. Belt. To make it, cast on 25 loops and knit 1/1 elastic for 240 rows in a row. We are closing 241st.
  9. Connecting parts. We sew all parts of the product with a zigzag: the back with the right and then with the left shelf. We sew in the sleeves. Steam the finished cardigan and dry it.

Three-color cardigan in the style of Lalo Dolidze – gradient of braids

For the lalo model, Alize Lanagold 800 threads are used, which contain 49% wool. For a jacket of size 44 you will need: 16 skeins of 100 g each in three shades (6/5/5), two pairs of knitting needles No. 5, length 60, 80 cm, 3 mm 40 cm (circular), holders for loops. The description will use generally accepted abbreviations used in most knitting magazines: p. – row, p. – loop, knit. ch. – front surface, purl. Ch. – purl stitch, cf. p. – middle loops, purl. p. – purl loop, knit. p. – front loop, chrome. – edge loop, nech.r. - odd row. Procedure for creating a product:

  1. The main fabric, including the front and back.
    • We cast on 228 p., take the thread in three additions. 2 r. we double the number of loops, to do this, after each simple loop we make a yarn over (take the thread in the form of a loop, throw it on the second knitting needle with knitted loops). This technique will add volume to the product and help round off the bottom.
    • The third row is done like this: 1 edge, 2 purls, 30 knits. We maintain this order until the end of the row; we knit the remaining three loops like this: k2, 1 chrome.
  2. Knitting braids
    • The entire jacket represents the presence of large braids. One such braid contains 30 loops. There should be 14 such patterns in total. From the 4th row we begin knitting braids by crossing 15X15 loops. To complete it, remove 15 stitches onto a spare needle, move them behind the work and knit the next 15 stitches. We pull the working knitting needle forward and leave the already knitted loops on the fishing line, then the knitting needle remains free.
    • Then we take an additional knitting needle in our left hand and perform it with the help of the working one - 15 knits. p. and 2 p. Again we remove 15 stitches onto a separate knitting needle and send them to work. We knit 15 loops. ch., pull through the working knitting needle. Having freed it from the loops (by displacing them onto the fishing line), we knit 15 faces. p. from an additional knitting needle. We continue until the end of the row. We knit the next purl row in the same way. This type of knitting will ensure crossover. The crossing must be repeated after 28 rows. The result will be 14 braids: three for the shelves, one for the armholes and 6 pieces. - on the back.

  1. Armhole.
    • The armhole edge is smaller than the back by 10 stitches and larger than the front by 20 stitches. Along the edge from the back, you will have to decrease one loop in all odd rows, knitting 2 loops together. Along the edge from the front we will close 10 stitches at once; to do this, you need to decrease 3, 3, 2, 2 loops alternately in odd rows. It turns out that 30 stitches of one braid will go to the armhole hem. First one shelf is knitted, then the second. We keep the height of the armhole edging at 18 cm.
    • Next, we close the loops from the 2nd and 3rd braids (this will be the shoulder), but we still have to knit 1 braid 10 cm, which will go to the collar. Then we close the loops here too. Let's return to the back roll. Here we reduce the number of loops one at a time in all stitches. R. As a result, the height of the edging of the back part of the product will coincide with the height of the edging of the armhole along the front.
  2. Sleeve.
    • We do it from bottom to top. We cast on 50 stitches in the second row, by yarn over we increase one loop after each loop, we get 100 stitches. We continue to knit braids, as on the main fabric. You can add 10 purls in each to increase the volume. R. one loop at a time. We knit all additional loops with knit stitches. We direct the braids on the left sleeve to the right side, on the other - vice versa.
    • Let's start rolling along the sleeve. The 10 loops added earlier will have to be removed. However, the hem along the back is flat, so you will have to remove 1 stitch in each purl row. On the front it is much deeper, so you need to close 7 loops at once, and then 3 times in each purl. R. 1 p. We finish knitting the sleeves by decreasing the number of loops on both sides in this order: 3, 5, 10 loops. Cast off all remaining loops.
  3. Connecting parts. The cardigan was knitted entirely at once, so all that remains is to sew the sleeves, the center of the collar, the collar itself to the back and sew the shoulder seams on top.

How to choose the right yarn and knitting needles

Cardigans are knitted using machines and by hand. In the latter case, the choice of knitting needles becomes especially important. There is an opinion that their thickness should be 2 times the yarn. The most popular knitting needles for knitting cardigans are No. 3, 4 and 5. The number indicates their thickness. Knitting needles vary in material: aluminum, steel, plastic, bamboo. They are also classified by type: open, closed (there is a limiter at the end) and circular (connected with a tourniquet).

Now there are a huge number of yarn options. The result of all work depends on her choice. Some contain 100% natural threads (chinchilla, cotton, angora), others are supplemented with synthetic threads (melange, Pingouin Familia, Alize Lanagold 800). It is important to take into account the thickness of the fibers, structure, length in the skein, and the presence of color effects. To make warm clothes, it is better to take mohair, angora, alpaca (natural goat and rabbit wool). Products made from them are warm, soft, and light. Let's look at a few of the most popular types of yarn:

  • Wool is fiber made from the hair of animals (camels, dogs, sheep, rabbits). It varies in thickness, strength and fiber length. The most durable wool is camel wool. The general qualities of this material include softness, high thermal insulation, and hygroscopicity. The disadvantage of wool is the formation of pellets on things.
  • Acrylic is a synthetic material. In its qualities it resembles wool, and is resistant to weak alkalis, acids, and sunlight. Can be painted well. Acrylic clothing is not eaten by moths, it does not stretch or shrink. Used as an improver of the properties of natural yarn.
  • Mohair is considered one of the warmest types of yarn. It is the wool of Angora goats. The best mohair comes from cutting kids. It is used in the form of a mixture with synthetic fibers, due to the fact that pure mohair cannot form a thread and breaks down into fibers.
