In a bowl, mix one and a half cups of glue with a half cup of starch and a quarter cup of water. We dip the thread into a bowl and wind it around the ball in random order.

You can pre-lubricate the balloon with Vaseline to make it easier to separate it from the thread. However, you can do without it.

When the glue dries and the threads harden, you just need to pierce the ball with a needle and carefully pull it out through the hole.

This area of ​​application is the most obvious, but no less significant.

Just attach the loops to your balls and decorate the Christmas tree with them. Additionally, various beads can be strung during winding. Before drying, the balls can be generously sprinkled with dry sparkles.

The thinner the threads, the prettier decoration. Regular sewing thread will work too.

The second rule is a little easier. When creating thread toys, you can not do without fluffy pom-poms. They are also used as a basis for a toy, when pompoms are glued together to create the desired shape and volume, and can also be used for decoration, for example, to imitate hair or fur on a toy.

There are very interesting ideas more complex toys and even interior items from air structures obtained by winding threads around a balloon.

Materials and tools

Manufacturing procedure

For the manufacture of christmas decoration The balloon is inflated until the diameter is approximately 10 cm and tied tightly to prevent air from escaping.

Using a cotton swab, the cream is carefully applied to the entire surface of the ball, making sure that it covers the form with an even layer. This technique will subsequently allow you to quickly remove the form from the thread ball without problems with peeling off. This is especially important if a thread with a pronounced hairiness is chosen for the toy, from which it is not always easy to separate the balloon.

The thread from which the toy is to be created is pre-impregnated with glue. It is better to do this when the threads are wound into a loose ball, which can be completely immersed for some time in a container with an adhesive. You can not soak all the threads at once, but do it gradually when making jewelry. To do this, two through holes are made in a container with glue, through which a darning needle is passed with a thread threaded into it. Passing through the glue inside the vessel, the thread will be impregnated, which means it will be prepared for winding.

Now you can remove the needle from the thread and proceed to the main stage. You can start wrapping the ball from anywhere, but it is more convenient to fix the tip of the thread on the tail of the ball so that it does not slip off and you would not have to start all over again. The thread should be wound in chaotic circles, while making sure that one turn intercepts the previous layers.

At this stage, the help of a second person may be required to hold the glue and help the thread to be pulled evenly. A child can easily cope with this activity, the main thing is that at the same time parents worry about the apron for the baby, which can get dirty when working with glue.

The density with which the thread is wound is determined by the master himself and the purpose of the future ball. However, if you want to make the ball as openwork as possible, you should not lay the thread too rarely, because this will affect the strength of the structure. Frequent winding provides a dense filament cocoon.

When the required amount of thread is reached, you need to generously lubricate the end of the thread with adhesives and hide it under the wound layer. After that, it is checked whether the adhesive layer is sufficient everywhere, and additionally smeared with glue with a brush.

When the work is completed, the ball can be hung to dry, and so that the process goes evenly and the balloon does not release air, it is better to dry the toy away from heaters. On average, it takes about a day to dry, but when the workpiece finally hardens, you can get a balloon out of it. To do this, they either pierce it, so that they can then get it through the holes in the threads, or, having untied it, gently release the air.

Decorating a ball of thread

From such a workpiece, an original Christmas tree decoration. To do this, you will need to either cover the ball with a layer of glitter, putting it on a small layer of glue, or decorate it with thematic applications, sequins or beads. You can apply drawings to the balls using a stencil or cover the future toy with an aerosol red or decorative, for example, gold, varnish.

There are countless decor options, and using different techniques, you can make decorations in the same style for the entire Christmas tree, while one toy will differ from the other, creating a unique christmas decor interior.

If you carefully cut through the ball with a clerical knife, then you can turn the blanks into amazingly openwork airy flowers, as if they came out of a fairy tale. To do this, without deforming the thread ball, it is cut, as shown in the illustration, and one petal after another is carefully bent one by one. That is, before the first perfect ball, we had 4 attempts to choose glue, application method, type of winding.

So I propose a proven system:

1) It is most convenient to take balls in a round shape with an elastic band at the end. They are sold in any stores for children or in the sections of supermarkets about the holiday. All balls are reusable. It's a question of economy. If you are only making one ball, you can just use a bare ball and then blow or pop it.

In our case, it was necessary to make 30 balls, so I bought 7 bases and I had a cycle of 7 pieces.


2) Each ball is wrapped with cling film so that the rubber does not shrink from glue, etc.
We tie the tip, which is inflated, on a thread and also wrap it tightly with a film so as not to eat the glue later, we leave only the back of the pip open, for which we will hold.

Lubricate the film on top of the ball sunflower oil or johnsons baby oil. Why do it?

In fact, even if you do not smear, the ball will still lag behind the film, but when you wind the threads, they leave glue strips on the cellophane. If you leave it as is, then the glue dries with a film between the threads and it must be cut out (see photo of the blue ball at the beginning of the post). If there is oil, then it sort of rolls off and remains on the film just like balls.


3) Glue!!!
Glue should be used PVA brand M (furniture). That is, ordinary clerical glue is not suitable (PVA-K), it does not hold at all. Glue must be bought with the expectation of 1 liter for 7-10 balls, with a diameter of 30 cm. It took me about 3 liters for 32 balls.
PVA glue should not be taken as an emulsion, although it is more expensive, it dries like epoxy surrounding each thread with a transparent cocoon, but simply building pva-m for wood, etc.

Good glue in the photo with a pink label, it was bought in Leroy-Merlin for 23 UAH - 1 liter.

We prepare the glue in portions, adding water and starch to make the ball harder. I cooked about 300 ml in a vessel - a couple of tablespoons of starch and 20-30 ml of water to knead the starch. Make the solution by eye - the glue should not end up much more liquid than before dilution.

THREADS!!
As it turned out, the question is not fundamental. I took a large acrylic yarn of 300 meters per 100 grams, blue is natural cotton-bamboo. Both natural and artificial thread glued well, provided that it was well impregnated.

4) Two people usually participate in master classes - one person dries the threads in the vessel (he hammers glue into the threads), and the second one winds.
We didn't do it that way, but made a system out of a bottle. In a half-liter bottle, we made two holes - at the bottom and in the cork. In a dry bottle, the thread was threaded with a needle from the bottom up. The hole was made according to the size of the thread so that it would enter tightly, then the glue would not pour out back. In the cork, you can make a hole a little wider so that the glue is not squeezed out all the way, and the thread comes out wet.
So, when each thread passed through the entire length of the bottle from the bottom up and, savoring, was squeezed out a little at the exit, an assistant was not needed. If the thread ran out, then I made a knot in advance before entering the bottle and connected them.

5) The work is dirty, I did everything on the balcony. She spread oilcloth on the floor, put on a raincoat on herself, but backwards. She took up the bottle with her feet and shook it.

First you make a circle around the ball and tie it in a knot, then you wind it randomly.

It is convenient to wind if you pull out a long segment (one and a half to two meters) with glue from the bottle and twist it around the ball, distributing the threads. Then draw the next one. Small pieces are less neat.

6) The balls were drying on the balcony. It was hot, so they dried out in about half a day. I wound early in the morning and in the evening - at night.




7) When they were completely dry, I looked for a pip to inflate, untied it and let the air out. The film and the ball were taken out from a large sector nearby.

Step-by-step instruction how to make a ball of thread:

1. Inflate the balloon to the desired size. Wind a thread on the tail of the ball in reserve ~ 10 cm - for the future loop, on which the ball will subsequently be hung to dry.

2. Lubricate the surface of the ball with petroleum jelly to make it easier to detach from the glued threads later.

3. Soak the threads with glue. When using thread different colors, very beautiful weaves are obtained.

There are several ways:

1. Pour the glue into some container with which it is convenient for you to work, and soak the threads in it for 5-10 minutes. Dilute PVA glue with water (1: 1) before soaking, as it is too thick. Make sure that the threads do not tangle when soaking.
2. Take a tube of glue and with a hot needle, make two holes in it opposite each other. Thread the thread through the holes with a needle (when pulled through the tube, the thread will be smeared with glue). Instead of a bottle of glue, you can take a Kinder Surprise egg, or another small plastic bottle, for example, from a medicine or from the same silicate glue, and pour glue into it.
3. Wind the dry thread around the ball (skip step 4 and go directly to step 5), and then carefully saturate it with glue using a brush or sponge.

4. Fasten the end of the thread impregnated with glue to the ball (you can use adhesive tape, adhesive tape, protective tape to fix the thread on the inflatable ball). Then randomly wrap the entire surface of the ball with a thread, as if on a ball - each turn in the opposite direction. If the threads are thick - make fewer turns, if the threads are thin - wind them more tightly. Hold the threads in your hands with a slight tightness, and also make sure that the thread is well wetted with glue. If the bottle runs out of glue, refill.

5. After winding, leave again a long tail for the loop, winding it again on the tail of the ball, cut the thread and hang the ball wrapped with threads to dry. Dry the ball thoroughly for 1-2 days - the finished cocoon should be hard. Don't try to speed up the process by hanging the balloon next to a heater - the rubber that balloons are made of doesn't like that, and hot air can cause the balloon to burst. An indispensable thing when drying is a dryer for small clothes with clothespins. On the dryer, you can dry several balls at once, and they will not stick together.

6. When the glue is completely dry and hardened, the balloon must be removed from the cobweb craft.

There are two ways:

1. Peel off the ball from the cobweb using a pencil with an eraser on the end. Gently pierce the ball with a needle in several places and remove it or what is left of it.

2. Untie the balloon knot with which it was tied and it will gradually deflate. This method is practiced mainly when, instead of hot air balloon you used an inflatable ball as a basis for winding.

7. Glue the finished gossamer balls together with a hot gun, pushing the gluing place slightly inward. Also, the balls can be sewn together, but this is not easy, because the balls become very strong and hard when dried.

8. Decorate the resulting design with beads, beads, feathers, braid, ribbons, artificial flowers, or any other materials at hand. Cover with paint. To do this, take a can of paint, go out onto the balcony or into the yard. With a slight movement of your hand, direct the colorful jets at the balls waiting for a miraculous transformation. Make the effect of snow: moisten the balls with glue and dip them in semolina or powdered sugar. Spray the balloon with glitter hairspray. Don't expect a special radiance, but light sparks are guaranteed.

In order for the table not to get dirty during the winding process, it is better to lay something plastic on it, not paper - everything will stick to the paper. Suitable plastic coasters for hot. If not, you can use a corner for documents made of thick plastic. The bottom seam is cut off, the folder is unfolded and straightened, and from it a universal tool is obtained to save the table from glue, paint and other creative layers. In extreme cases, polyethylene is suitable for protecting the workplace.

Instead of glue for work, you can use sugar syrup or paste. Paste recipe: 4 teaspoons of starch in a glass of cold water, mix thoroughly and bring to a boil.

Instead of a thread, you can take a thin copper wire and wind it around the ball in the same way.

To prevent glue from leaking through the hole in the filament tube, put a thin needle on the end of the filament and pierce a piece of electrical tape with it. Tighten the thread in the opposite direction and firmly glue this electrical tape to the jar. Thus, through a small hole in the electrical tape, the glue will wet the thread not so abundantly and will stop randomly dripping from the thread onto the table and clothes.

Approach responsibly when winding the kokan. A poorly tied cocoon crackles and loses its shape during drying, as the ball descends.

Gossamer balls can be not only spherical in shape. As a basis for winding, you can take a cone-shaped object (roll thick paper or cardboard into a cone), a heart, etc.

If you decide to change the color of the ball of threads, then it is best to paint the ball before blowing it off and removing its base - so that the cobweb does not wrinkle during painting. If an air structure is being prepared, then the threads should be thin, light. For planters for flowers, it is better to take thick threads or even ropes and do not spare glue. On the table, previously covered with a working oilcloth, we put a container with prepared glue and put a skein of threads next to it. Pulling the thread through the glue, gently wrap the ball smeared with petroleum jelly or cream with a moistened thread. Slightly pulling the thread, we lay the turns on the ball in different directions. The density and direction of wrapping also depend on your desire and imagination.

Step 5

Balls wrapped in glue-soaked thread must be hung to dry. Try to find enough space so that the balls do not come into contact with other objects and with each other. It is not recommended to speed up the process with heating devices. Drying usually takes 1-2 days. Then we take a dried and hardened ball and carefully pierce the base ball with a needle. It remains only to carefully pull out the deflated ball between the threads. A crochet hook can help with this.
